School Council
Who We Are
Our school council is made up of 24 members, 1 boy and 1 girl from each class from year 1 to year 6. We are elected by our peers to represent them and their views. We make sure everyone can have a say and know that their opinions count.
What We Do
- We meet on Friday afternoons to discuss topics that are important to us such as school uniform, school meals and playground equipment.
- We carry out projects put forward by the governors and school management.
- We report back to our class and collect more ideas in our school council books and suggestion folders.
Our Achievements
We have contributed to a past questionnaire for Rushmore children and produced a power point and several short videos explaining the revised Rushmore Behaviour Policy.
We ran stalls at the Christmas Fare and Sunday Market, ice lolly sales in summer and collected food for Hackney Food Collection and people in need.
School Council visits Hackney Town Hall
We met with the Speaker at Hackney Town Hall on 30th April who gave us a tour and answered all of our interesting questions!
School Council visits the Houses of Parliament
On 6th June 2018, the whole School Council went to the Houses of Parliament. After going through strict security, we were taken on a tour of the Palace of Westminster and to see the House of Commons. We also took part in a workshop to explore the world of campaigning, create our own campaigns and learn about how the UK government works.
